Empathy, compassion or sympathy? Alleviating listening fatigue

Do you spend a lot of time listening to people? Perhaps it's even your job as a coach, therapist, counsellor, social worker, or HR manager... How do I prevent listening fatigue? Am I listening with an agenda? What can I do when I realise that I am somewhere other than fully open and compassionate?

About The Event

This session will be facilitated by CNVC trainer Nicholas Burnand. We will be meeting online via Zoom.

This workshop is part of our monthly Self Discovery Labs in which we combine Nonviolent Communication, Internal Family Systems and Mindfulness practice. We recommend that you complete an NVC foundation course before joining.

You may register for a stand-alone session or join our monthly or annual membership.

Do you spend a lot of time listening to people? Perhaps it's even your job as a coach, therapist, counsellor, social worker, or HR manager...

How we meet another can result in deep healing and inner transformation. It can also be the source of pain for the other as well as despair and fatigue for me. What is the difference between empathic listening, compassionate listening and sympathetic listening? With which kind of intention am I listening? What can I do when I realise that I am somewhere other than fully open and compassionate?

How do I bring myself back to this state when I realise that I am listening with an agenda?
